QUESTIONS ABOUT CHILD SPONSORSHIP

How much does it cost?
You can sponsor a child for £10 a month (just 33p a day).  You simply complete a Bank Standing Order form.  We also hope you are able to gift aid your donations. If the cost of sponsorship rises, we tell donors.  However existing donors may carry on paying their existing rate unless the difference becomes too great.

How long would my sponsorship last?
We hope you would be able to support your child at least until their schooling finishes but ideally beyond that.  However we do recognise that sponsors' circumstances sometimes change and you may discontinue your sponsorship at any time.  It is vital that you inform us and charity would hope to be able continue to support the child until another sponsor is found.

How much of my money will go to my sponsored child?
With Congo action, the majority of your sponsorship money is used to pay your child's school fees.  Any surplus is allocated to support the teachers and for  buying educational materials, and essential supplies for the school.

How can I communicate with the child I sponsor?
Initially we encourage you to send your child a personal or family photograph and a short letter of introduction.  Sponsored children like to keep their sponsor's photos and letters as treasured possessions.  You may write to your child as often as you like as your words of encouragement and support will make a big difference as they begin to appreciate that people do care for them.  All we ask is that you send everything to us for onward delivery and that you do not include your address on anything.  

Will my child communicate with me?
Your child will write to you via us at least once a year.  Those children who may struggle with letter writing will be helped by an appropriate adult until they develop the necessary literacy skills.  The children are taught in French and Swahili. If we have the voluntary resources we will try and attach a translation but we hope you will understand that this is not always possible.

How else will I learn about the child I am helping?
Each year you will receive your sponsored child's update, along with a new photograph so you can see for yourself how they have grown and how their life has changed over the past year.  You will also receive a newsletter from us.
